Center for African American Health

Mission

We empower the Black community to make informed health decisions that benefit the whole person through education, collaboration, and advocacy.

Vision

Partnering to create opportunities for Black individuals and families to live in healthy, vibrant, and sustainable communities.

Values

We believe that health is more than health care. Our goal is to focus on the places where we live, work, play, and pray to attain the highest level of health and well-being for all our communities.

Geographic Focus

The geographic area Center for African American Health focuses on is the greater metropolitan Denver area, which has a population of 3.1 million people. Approximately 5% of the region’s total population is African American. More than half of those African Americans live in the city and county of Denver (population 704,000), where African Americans account for 10% of the population.

Our Programs

Aging Mastery Program

The program helps older adults embrace the gift of longevity through fun, innovative, and educational sessions.

Youth Workforce Readiness Program

CAA Health offers 3 modules of work preparedness programs designed for ages 14-24 to support your success and increase your net now and into the future.

Self-Care Saturdays

Self-Care Saturdays offer fun and interactive ways to prioritize your mental well-being and practice self-care in the community.

Health Insurance Enrollment Assistance

Get connected to different affordable healthcare plans with support, information, education, resources, and more.

24/7 Dad

This initiative is an evidence-based program that teaches men the characteristics they need to be an involved, responsible, and committed father.

Diabetes Self-Empowerment Education

This free interactive Diabetes education will help you to better control your diabetes by gaining lifelong tools and habits.

Emotional Emancipation Circles

This group provides space for understanding Black history by focusing on the Seven Keys of Emotional Healing, Wellness, and Empowerment for Black people.

Barbershop Talks

Barbershop Talks Series is a space for men to speak freely and voice opinions, experiences, and concerns.

Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families is an evidence-based program that aims to strengthen parenting skills, improve child’s behavior, and enhance family functioning.

BeHeard Mile High

This social movement created and maintained by CAA Health gives community members the chance to have their voices heard regarding health and social issues affecting our neighborhoods.

Community Resource Navigation

Get connected to support and services like health insurance literacy, counseling, food and clothing banks, housing and utilities.

Therapists of Color Collaborative Referral Program

Get connected with the Therapist of Color Collaborative for 18 sessions (individuals) or 15 sessions (families).

Mental Health and First Aid Training

This free 6-hour virtual training prepares you to respond appropriately to mental health crises.
